Happy Birthday To Me!
In celebration of my 29th birthday, I decided to reach out to the blogging and online business community to find out about some favorite business birthday gifts that people have received.
My one stipulation was that it had to be a gift that meant something to them as the business owner. It could have been money for a course, a new piece of technology, or something decorated with their business logo. Anything, really.
My reasoning for creating this post is twofold. One is that I am TERRIBLE about telling people what I want for my birthday. Every year, I have a conversation with my grandma that goes something like this:
Grandma: “What do you want for your birthday?”
Every. Single. Year.
So, doing something like this means that next year, when I inevitably get asked that question, I could look back at this post for some inspiration.
My second reason is that I wanted to celebrate the people who put their whole selves into their business, and whose families and friends celebrate with them. Having people in your life to help you celebrate both you and your business is so important to long-term success.
And since I’m the birthday girl, I’ll start with me!
Kathryn Roberts’ Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Kathryn Roberts at Quest for $47 (Me!)
My favorite blog/business birthday gift was something that my best friend got me for my first business with TheFakeRedhead.com. Since that website’s focus is all about creative writing (and I also write novels in my spare time), my best friend got me a canvas printed with an ampersand (you know, the “&” symbol) on it. She also got me a t-shirt embroidered with the hashtag that I use when talk about my novel: #WhoIsTalyaNightingale. Which I LOVE, so freaking much, and wear all the time.
Honorable mention: The best gift I have given myself was the decision to go all in on Quest for $47, and invest in my education in blogging and business. It’s accelerated my growth and allowed me to step into the best business owner and person that I can be.
Leah Gervais’ Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Leah Gervais at Urban 20Something
A “logo” poster of my business name and logo for behind my desk. It made my at-home office feel so official!
Ashley Pelaez’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Ashley Pelaez at The Millennial Kitchen
For my birthday last year one of my very best friends, who has supported me since the very beginning, got me the most thoughtful gift. She had a mug made with my logo on it. She reached out to the graphic designer who created my logo and had her send over a copy. Every time I drink something out of that mug I am reminded that what I’m doing matters and there are people out there who support me no matter what. It truly is one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received!
Drew DuBoff’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Drew DuBoff at Drew Duboff: Start Scaling Successfully
My favorite birthday gift is honestly just a thread in a blogging Facebook group sharing appreciation. In online business, we’re never surrounded by our co-workers or friends in-person, so getting to celebrate with the people who root you on is a great feeling.
Liv Talley’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Liv Talley at The Sealed Deal
Honestly, usually when I get vouchers for dinner somewhere nice. Because I love food more than most people.
Alyssa Keil’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Alyssa Keil at FinanciALLY
Nothing beats coaching and mentorship opportunities, but those are obviously the higher ticket items. This year for my birthday, my mom bought me a ticket to an in-person sales strategy workshop, which I’m so excited about and grateful for!
Chhavi Daaku’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Chhavi Daaku at Mrs. Daaku Studio
I have two items for this birthday. First, my husband who is also a partner in the blog got us t-shirts with our logo for a speaking event we had recently. It was the best! It was easy for people to remember us and our branding. Second, my parents gifted me a Macbook Air. It is the BEST thing that has ever happened – it is easy to carry and I love iMovies to edit videos.
Claudia’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Claudia at Claudia’s Cafe
My Chromebook – it means that I don’t have to do everything on my phone like I was doing! It makes things like editing pictures so much easier!
Money Bee’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Money Bee at The Land of Milk and Money
One birthday, my partner handed me a jewelry box. It looked like it was going to be a necklace based on the shape but it was a little light, so I wasn’t quite sure what was going on. Luckily, I was thrilled when I opened it and found a piece of paper inside with the login details for a blogging course I had been dying to take!
I’d been a bit hesitant to buy it myself because of the price. But my favorite part of this gift was that it was a real acknowledgement from my partner that he understood how much blogging meant to me – and how much we both wanted it to succeed.
Best blogger birthday ever!
Jacqueline Gilchrist’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Jacqueline Gilchrist at Mom Money Map
Money has been my favorite blog related birthday gift. I can use it on whatever’s a business priority at the time whether it’s learning more about SEO or a blog resource.
Audrey Morris’ Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Audrey Morris at Mommy Enlightened
My favorite birthday gift I’ve received for my business is a membership to the whole Adobe Suite. I use it for my business everyday to create graphics for my blog, and is incredibly fun software to use. Making graphics has become my favorite part of blogging.
Ashley’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Ashley at The Rich Girl Blog
My favorite birthday gift was a new camera lens for my photography business. It meant a lot that my husband bought me a new lens because that showed me that he believed in me and my new business venture.
Rob Helstrom’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Rob Helstrom at Course Creators Toolbox
Rode Wireless Go is a remote wireless mic setup just released by Rode. The size of the remote mic and receiver are the smallest wireless mic setup I know of. Because of its size it is very easy to conceal and you don’t have to worry about facing the mic attached to my camera.
Beth Sawyer’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Beth Sawyer at Stardust Explorations
I’d been so focused on work that my mother sent me some money and said to use it for something fun. I decided to finally start a balcony garden, and now I have a great space to go outside and enjoy nature when I need to take a break.
Tasha Reid’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Tasha Reid at The Domestically Dysfunctional
I hate to be the one that says something really expensive, lol, but honestly I’d have to say a new laptop. My old one was getting to where it was crazy slow. It took forever to boot up, edit pictures, anything. I swear there were times that I almost chunked it across the room! My husband knew how much of a problem it was so he suggested a new one for my birthday, even though it was a couple of months away. I got a Macbook Air, which was (is) my first Mac & I freakin’ LOVE it. I’ve had it for a little over a year now and I honestly don’t know how got anything done without it. It has saved my sanity.
Bridget Liggett’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Bridget Liggett at Cowboy Specialist
My favorite business related birthday gift would have to be my leopard print Twisted X Eco Friendly Driving Mocs! You might ask how that is business related? Well, I blog at CowboySpecialist.com (which is all about the western lifestyle), while also owning a Western Store with my husband! It is so much easier to sell something you love! (I totally wrote a blog post about them!) So, sometimes I get gifted things from the store. And I love twisted x driving mocs and I love the eco friendly ones even more. The best part is that there are 12 water bottles used in the making of these shoes. So happy birthday to me and the world! Plus, I can’t even tell you how cute and super comfortable they are. 😉
Janel Carrey’s Favorite Business Birthday Gift
Who: Janel Carey at The Evil Mommy
My husband bought me the fancy desk I have always wanted. It sounds silly, but when I sit at it, it makes me feel like a real writer and the words flow freely. The desk provided the jumpstart I needed to make the blog my full time business instead of a part time hobby.
